HIPSTER PARISIAN RESTAURANT

Since I had about 40 hours alone in Paris, I kept my walks to a half mile radius from the hotel.

No sense of direction combined with no cell service is a recipe for a getting lost forever.

During one of my walks, a restaurant caught my eye: 750g La Table. Admittedly, the restaurant is green – my favorite color and the reason I went in. But that’s just as good as any reason to judge the quality of an establishment or book by its cover.

Walkable Restaurant from Vice Versa

This restaurant is in the same 15th arrondissement as the Vice Versa hotel. It’s either a 10 or 20-minute walk depending on whether or not you remember which street is the most efficient route (again, no sense of direction).

Hipster Vibes

I miss the era of handlebar mustaches and industrial architectural glow-ups.

It resonates with me.

If there is one regret I have in life, it is not moving to Portland in the early 2010s. But, I can still bask in the hipster era by visiting places that give off the hipster feel.

And 750g gives all the feels.

Eclectic Décor

With hanging ferns, patio lighting, pool flags, and inflatable toys, this place is an escape.

Just off the street and in the middle of the 15th arrondissement, it creates its own microclimate amidst the bustling city.

Independent & Eco-friendly Parisian Restaurant

This restaurant is part of the College Culinary de France. According to the Google Translation from their Instagram profile, it is an independent collective made up of activists, restaurants, and artisan producers.

We love that.

Chalkboard Menu

I went to 750g twice. The first time was by myself before my husband had met up with me in Paris.

I got really lucky when I went solo. Despite my attempt to speak French (I definitely said a version of “I, you speak English?” multiple times), the workers all spoke impeccable English. So when they showed me the chalkboard menu written in French, they were kind enough to explain all the dishes in English.

A lot of places in Paris have chalkboard menus written in cursive. The photo option in the Google Translate app is like the new era of public schoolers who can’t read script fonts.

This means if I wanted to know what each individual dish was, I had to type it into my phone one by one.

The second time I went to 750g was with my husband who knows enough French to get by. And thank goodness because the staff that day (supposedly) did not speak English.

It would not have been an issue without him, but it definitely helped bring my anxiety down since my French accent is simply awful, and my prior attempts at speaking it proved to be nonsensical.

With that said, I ordered the same dish from the previous time. Mainly because I panicked under pressure.

Fresh Ingredients & Delicious Dishes

I got the Pad Thai twice (it was worthy of ordering both times). The French-influenced Pad-Thai was made with olive oil, whole peanuts, and fresh vegetables. I felt full but not heavy after the dish so dessert was a must.

Of course I chose the cheese plate over a sweet dessert.

Please refer to this blog post for cheese reference.

Organic & Biodynamic Wine List

It should be no surprise there were plenty of wine options. But what I didn’t realize was that their wine list is full of organic and biodynamic bottles. The wines that don’t fall under those categories are purchased directly from winegrowers.

Because their wine menu is printed in a San Serif type, Google Translate could take a photo of it. I opted for the Côtes du Rhône Chatesu Cohola Rosé because the translated description said “nose red fruit, English candies followed by a lively attack”. And I had to know what the lively attack tasted like.

Spoiler: it tasted like Rosé.

And unfortunately did not pair well with my dish.  But that’s totally my fault and not the Rosé’s.

My second time visiting the restaurant we ordered a carafe of white wine. I am happy to report it did pair well with the Pad Thai. When in doubt, go for an acidic white for Pad Thai.

Kitty Rating Score

TL;DR

750g La Table is a must-visit if you’re in the 15th arrondissement. It’s got a great 2010s Portland hipster energy of creative indifference, offers an organic menu (with at least one vegetarian option), has an eco-mindful wine list, and is an independent business (from what I can mostly deduce via Google Translate).

750g La Table gets a 10/10 Kitties.
